I was spotted at the Clothes Show when I was around 18 years old by a London agency. However, before that I used to LOVE watching America’s Next Top Model on TV and always dreamed of becoming a model from then on (I’m massive Tyra Banks fan!!)
What do you think sets a successful model apart from the rest?
Working hard off-set as well as on-set. Making sure you keep your portfolio current, updating your digitals regularly, keeping your mind and body healthy, networking with industry professionals and keeping your social profiles up-to-date`.
How important is it for models to maintain a healthy lifestyle and body image?
I think being healthy in both body and mind is key for everybody, not just models.
What are some common misconceptions about modelling?
That to be a successful model you need to be very tall and very slim! This is definitely NOT true (anymore!). As a curve model, I love to see the diversity in the industry and there is plenty of opportunities for everybody, no matter your shape or size. I’m curvier than ever and busier than ever!
How does social media play a role in the modelling industry?
Social media plays a huge role in modelling. It’s fantastic for networking and finding collaboration opportunities with photographers, brands and other models. It’s also a great way for potential clients to see your content!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to become a model?
Never pay to join an agency! Also, do not spend hundreds of pounds on a portfolio – look for photographers who might be willing to test.
Also, never give up! The industry is full of rejections. Just because you get a few nos, it doesn’t mean that there isn’t a huge YES around the corner.
How do you deal with rejection in the modeling industry?
I used to find this difficult when I was younger. I remember going to a Vivienne Westwood casting and being told my “hips were too wide” as a teenage girl (size 6!) and this really knocked my confidence. As I got older, I have learned to try and not take things personally. A client will have a very specific brief in mind and it’s rare that you will match that exact brief. At the end of the day, it’s definitely just business – not personal! You’ll be perfect for another client!
8. What do you enjoy most about modeling?
I love to see the final result of a project. So much hard works goes into a shoot and all8 the creatives involved work so hard – the photographer, the make-up artist, the stylist etc – seeing it all come together makes modelling such a fun job!
9. How do you stay updated on industry trends and movements?
We spoke about social media earlier – but this is definitely a great way to keep up with industry trends!
10. How has your experience been working with our model agency?
Great! I have not been with you guys long but already booked two great jobs! There also seems to be plenty of exciting opportunities for all models and I’m very excited for the future with Mentor ?
